Let me add a note about text orientation. While many platforms have built in support for right-to-left languages. It takes an entire paradigm shift to support vertical languages. Vertical Chinese (which is rarely used in apps) stack the characters on top of each other. The glyphs for traditional Mongolian, though, are written sideways inside the font and must be rotated in the application. This requires creating custom controls for all the text based UI elements.
